Antonio Banderas In Malta To Shoot New TV Series

Antonio Banderas is playing Pablo Picasso in new National Geographic series

World-famous Spanish actor Antonio Banderas will touch down in Malta in the coming days to continue shooting of his latest TV series ‘Genius: Picasso’. 

Banderas, 57, is playing Pablo Picasso in the second season of the ‘Genius’ series, the first episode of which will be broadcast on National Geographic on 24th April.

The government’s head of marketing Johann Grech is set to replace Engelbert Grech as the Malta Film Commissioner, the Times of Malta has learnt.

Contacted, Mr Grech confirmed the appointment and pledged to continue promoting Malta’s “excellent” film industry and building on the success of his predecessor, who he said led a real boom in film production.

TV submarine gets a WWII facelift

'Scorpion' will be feature in German TV series Das Boot

A working submarine used in films such as U571 and Ghostboat has returned to Malta after spending three weeks under the glow of film cameras in France.

'Scorpion', as the 65 metre-long vessel was named some years ago, underwent works to make it look like a German World War II vessel before heading to La Rochelle submarine pen to feature in upcoming TV series Das Boot.

James Faulkner, Jim Caviezel, Olivier Martinez to star in Malta-shot ‘Paul, Apostle of Christ’

James Faulkner, Jim Caviezel, Olivier Martinez, Joanne Whalley, and John Lynch are to star in a Malta-shot historical drama Paul, Apostle of Christ, Variety reported yesterday.

The film will be produced by Sony through its faith-based Affirm Films label. The movie will be directed by Andrew Hyatt from his own screenplay.

The story reportedly covers Paul, portrayed by Faulkner, going from the most infamous persecutor of Christians to Jesus Christ’s most influential apostle. 

Aamir, Katrina to start shoot in Malta on specially built ships for Thugs of Hindostan

The ambitious film, Thugs of Hindostan, will star Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh and is scheduled for Diwali 2018 release.

Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh will start shooting for Thugs of Hindostan in the first week of June. This film brings together Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan for the first time and will be shot aboard two specially constructed, massive ships, that were built for over two months and are currently docked by the Maltese seaside.

ITV's Cannonball to be shot in Malta

ITV, one of the main broadcasters in the UK, has selected Malta as the prime location for all the water games of new TV show Cannonball.

 

All the focus will be on Malta as the Malta Film Studios in Kalkara will be set up for the variety of water-based challenges. ITV has already issued a call for contestants across the UK. 

Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said 2017 has started off on a very good note with back-to-back productions.

"This industry is injecting millions of euros into the local economy over a relatively short period of time," he said.
